This One Night Only big party was really spectacular. All winners were happy for cash prizes and trophies received. The brilliant ideas of all the men and women who planned and held this Christmas party is well appreciated.

Compared to past years’ Christmas parties of The Real Bank, where all areas/ clusters prepared for their themed performances to compete for the Grand Slam Title, the Bank’s 2011 Christmas festivity was indeed a tremendous success as it adopted the theme of a top rating reality TV show “Pilipinas Got Talent” with their own version of “The Real Bank Got Talent.”

With the same format as what we’ve seen on television, announcements and teasers for voluntary audition were distributed and an actual audition was held in the head office with the Christmas Party 2011 Committee as preliminary judges. The finalists were advised of the criteria to be used in judging and some suggestions were also given on how to improve each performance. Each finalist had at least two weeks preparation before the BIG NIGHT.

At last, on the night of the Christmas party itself, December 16 at the Amoranto Theater in Quezon City, a sumptuous dinner was served and the annual activity was opened with a thanksgiving prayer led by one of the managers from Loans Management Group, Ms. Sheryll Cando and a special Christmas message from the Chairman of the Board, Jose G. Araullo.

The show hosts, (posing as Luis Manzano and Billy Crawford) real life “kumpares” Benneth Gabuat and Jocel Licup, welcomed everybody to the first-ever “The Real Bank Got Talent” as they made very creative introductions of the three judges who acted as FMG, Ai-ai and Kris Aquino, wittingly played by Mr. Jun Lam, Ms. Edith Manago and Ms. Bing Dizon.

The audience was screaming and shouting as the show was kicked off with a special number participated by previous years’ Christmas party best performers Jon Arellano, Jerry Sumagaysay, Jojo Bombita and Rexielou Dimaano. With a festive mood set on a perfect venue, mixed emotions and excitement were felt by the ten finalists as the competition began.

Ten different talents competing for one title presented remarkable and outstanding performances which included singing (solo, duets, and band), magic tricks and different dancing genres. Contestants included Jumbo Zafranco, LP Ambubuyog, Kelly Alvarez, Aivan Miguel, Roxanne Morva, Jojo Bombita, Atty. Chris Zafra, Atty. Renniel Mailom, Leslie de Guzman, Archie Sanchez, Mark Cristobal, Teresa Hernandez, Ralph Gamboa, Joriel Dagsa, Michael Bacalando, Josh Alcantara, Meg de Guzman, mary Grace Rafols, Carla Lopez, Richard Opriasa, Jansen Dudang, Randy De Juan, Stephalyn Paez, Liezel Caparas and Angelo San Diego. The first ever RGT (Real Got Talent) winners will be selected through 75% judges’ scores and 25% audience votes.

In between performances, cash raffle prizes were drawn and some group games were also played to encourage active participation of other employees.

As official tabulation of scores were being made, a special number from selected head office employees was presented with Luchie Bacus, Isaac Vasquez, Ruby Sembrano, Mark Ervin Tambo, Sam Yjares, Joselito Maganye, Ynah Bautista and Renato Sintones as performers. This added more fun to the show and kept the audience entertained while waiting for the winners which was announced by the President himself, Mr. Alfredo Barretto, after delivering his own special Christmas message to the employees.

At last, the winners were announced and the 2nd runner up was awarded to Mr. Ultimate Balladeer of Calamba Branch, Jojo Bombita, with his own rendition of the song “This is the Moment”.

The much awaited performance of the Los Banqueros Illuminus from AMD bagged the 1st runner up as they performed a glow in the dark interpretative dance of the song “Sa Araw ng Pasko”.

And, as expected by much of the crowd, the breathtaking dance routines, perfect choreography and costume that topped the judges scores and got the highest audience votes, the superb dance duo of Josh Alcantara (yours truly) and Meg de Guzman as D’ Iconz from ALD was named as the first ever Real Bank Got Talent Champion.

This One Night Only big party was really spectacular. All winners were happy for cash prizes and trophies received. The brilliant ideas of all the men and women who planned and held this Christmas party is well appreciated.

Indeed, it was not just a celebration and commemoration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ but also a reunion and an acquaintance party for all TRB employees. I am looking forward to next year’s party. I know it will be a more exciting season 2 of The Real Bank Got Talent. Kudos to all the winners and thanks to all our Real bank co – employees.

A very special gathering was held one afternoon at the Hacienda ni Lolo Pepe. Very special guests were invited; arrived in Filipiniana attire and; headed to the azotea where the gathering would be held. From the azotea, the guests enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere in the hacienda – where Lolo Pepe’s horses at the rancho are heard in the background and also the roosters crowing and town neighbors mingling with each other. We had a sumptuous merienda cena while being serenaded by mellow music of violin ensemble. Anyone who wanted dessert can call the Mamang Sorbetero for a delicious treat of ice cream.

The gathering, I was referring to, was the launching activity of the fourth series of “Mga Kwento ni Lolo Pepe” storybook which was held last January 20, 2011 at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan, DepEd Central Office. The hacienda-inspired event was attended by students, educators, members of the press, DepEd officials and Real Bankers led by the Chairman, Mr. Jose G. Araullo.

Lolo Pepe’s VIP guests include DepEd Undersecretary Yolanda Quijano, Former DepEd OIC Fe Hidalgo, Mary Lindbert International’s Linda Legaspi, and Former DepEd NCR Director Cora Santiago. Sarah Facuri, the book’s visual artist, also graced the event.

Guests were serenaded by Abangan Norte Elementary School’s Violin Ensemble for the invocation. A special intermission number from Pio del Pilar High School Dance Troupe left the crowd in awe for their wonderful presentation of different Philippine folk dances. Students from Lemery Pilot School re-enacted one of Lolo Pepe’s saving stories found in the storybook.

In his message, Mr. Araullo emphasized the importance of self-discipline in developing the habit of saving. “Once you acquire that self-discipline, saving will be your way of life. Then, you’ll be able to achieve true financial independence,” he said.

The event ended by an early dinner catered by Via Mare. This was also the time for the guests to meet and greet the star of the occasion, Mr. Araullo, more known as “Lolo Pepe.” Each guest got a basket of vegetables as ‘pabaon’ for coming to the event.

It’s the Game of Balls!

Mozart. Abraham Lincoln. Mark Twain. Mary Antoinette. Charles Dickens. Theodore Roosevelt. Lewis Carroll. Bob Hope. George Armstrong. Babe Ruth. Mary, Queen of Scots.

Ever wonder what these people had in common, other than being famous in their respective fields?

Hmmm … any wild guesses? Any ideas?

Are you also familiar with ‘boules,’ ‘bocce,’ ‘Petanque’ or ‘Cherokee marbles’?

Guess what! All of these famous people were billiards enthusiasts! All the fancy terms previously mentioned refer to variations of bowling, both indoor and outdoor.

Taking a break from the scorching heat of the summer sun, the bank’s employees participated in their first indoor sports event, the B&B (Bowling And Billiards) Games 2010. The event’s participants were divided by area or department into eight teams — the Light Green Team (Metro Manila area), the Yellow Team (Rizal area), the Sky Blue team (Bulacan area), the Red Team (South I&II areas), the Violet Team (AMD, ALD, Credit, Executive Staff), the Fern Green Team (TCCCOG and GSD), the Navy Blue Team (BCD, FMAD, LAD, IT, Systems, HRD, Corplan, LSOD and QSA), and the Pink Team (BBG, BOSD, ATM, AAU, IAG and Collection).

The program started with the National Anthem followed with Invocation led by the sports committee members. Then came the presentation of respective teams’ muses, who paraded in their most provocative outfits in front of the crowd (oh-la-la!). Breakfast was served afterwards.

The event proper began with the Team Elimination Round. All billiard tables were occupied with players eager to make it to the final round. Every strike play in bowling was met with much screaming and hurrahs from their teammates and co-players. Players whose ball failed to score a strike or went to the gutter earned “ohs” and “ahs” from fellow players. But when a player hit a strike, all up from their seats and cheered their teammates with “high fives” and big “YES!” – adding excitement and fun to the game.

The committee even came up with an exciting challenge for the non-players. Those who could score a strike or spare were given P100 pesos each. Meanwhile, those who could make a call shot in the spare pocket or other pockets were awarded P200 and P100, respectively.

Four teams made it to the bowling finals while two males and two females battled it out in the billiards championship game.

And the winners are …..drum roll, please …

In the bowling finals, the Pink Team was declared the champion. The first runner-up was the Violet Team, followed by the Yellow Team and the Fern Green Team.

Generandy Diaz of the Pink Team and Lady Aimee Aquino of the Fern Green Team were proclaimed billiard champions in the male and female category, respectively, followed by Alfred Quismondo of the Red Team and Victoria Teovisio of the Pink Team.

Special awards and cash prizes were also given out in the bowling event. The Highest Single award went to Enrico Domingo (Pink Team) and Femavel Matado (Violet Team), followed by Anthony Vergel De Dios (Sky Blue Team) and Yolanda Esberto (Yellow Team). The Highest Pinner Award went to Raquel Santiago (Fern Green Team).

Thirteen players who competed during the eliminations bowled succeeding strikes, which earned them cash prizes. The Violet Team made a total of 26 strikes, followed by the Yellow Team with 25 strikes, and the Pink team with 21 strikes.

Renoso Renton, Enrico Domingo and Femavel Matado were declared Bagger 3 winners, while Yolanda Esberto, Digna Sayaman, Donna Gazzingan, Joy Ramos and Joy Nadong were named Bagger 2 winners. Too bad, no one made it to the 200 Club (male) and 150 Club (female) categories, which could have earned them bonus cash prizes of P500 each … tsk, tsk, tsk!

The Early Bird awardees were Crispina Magboo, Rose Magtibay, Catherine Tando, Jason Sajise and Louise Alindogan.

Rachelle Pillega of the Red Team was chosen as Best Muse. The Fern Green Team was declared the Most Organized Team.

Don’t forget Joselito Licup and Emelita Tagle, who both bagged the More Practice award. Funny Scores awards were also given to Mary Ann Castro, Michael Angelo Tanedo, Shirley Catapang, Mark Aaron Libunao and Joselito Licup (Who would have thought anyone could generate scores of 111, 888 and 69?)
