The Real Bank’s 35th Year Anniversary Celebration

The Real Bank marked its 35th year with a theme of “Being Real in a Changing World” last July 15, 2011 at The Peninsula Manila. Guests were welcomed with a walk through exhibit featuring all the TRB memorabilia from 1976 when it was established up to the present.

The first module, “Our Name and History,” was dedicated to the 1976 era, when The Real Bank was then known as Real Savings and Loan Association Inc. (RSLAI). The first branch in Cainta, Rizal was recreated, where old equipment, pictures of employees together with the evolution of uniforms were featured.

The second module, “How the Alkansya was Born,” featured the evolution of alkansya from a coconut husk to a bamboo to the modern piggy bank. It also presented how saving actually make one’s life easier. The famous childhood shoe alkansya of Lolo Pepe was also part of the exhibit and a mime artist displayed the act of saving itself by dropping money into his coin bank to encourage saving.

The third module focused on the “Golden Years” of The Real Bank where visual representations of the Bank’s growth in terms of number of employees, branch network, launched products, and total resources were showcased. The Bank’s “Bata… Bata…Mag-impok at Magsinop” saving advocacy campaign was also part of this module featuring the winners of the annual contest for painting, essay writing, storytelling and alkansya-making, the school activities like Teaching Orientation and Demonstration (TOD) for teachers and the School Visit Intervention (SVI) for the students. Awards and recognitions from different prestigious award giving bodies like the Anvil Awards were also displayed.

The last module, “Looking Ahead,” served as a teaser on what The Real Bank plans for the future which were unveiled in the program proper.

The night’s hosts were Ms. Kalila Aguilos and The Real Bank First Vice President from Branch Banking Group, Mr. Ignacio P. Lam, Jr. The evening started with an invocation led by Ms. Anna Lissa S. Ochoa, Senior First Vice President/ Head of Corporate Planning and Media Services Group. Soon after the guests were welcomed by The Real Bank President Mr. Alfredo S. Barretto. The evening was graced by the valuable presence of Vice President Jejomar C. Binay, who also gave the keynote address for The Real Bank’s 35th year celebration.

After the dinner, The Real Bank acknowledged and gave recognition to its important partners. Dubbed as the Kabalikat Award, the Department of Education represented by DepEd Undersecretary for Programs and Projects, Usec. Yolanda S. Quijano, former DepEd Undersecretary for Programs and Projects, Dr. Vilma L. Labrador and former DepEd Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Fe A. Hidalgo, received recognition for being a partner of The Real Bank in promoting the values of saving and thriftiness. Another set of award was also given to clients who supported and trusted The Real Bank through the years. The Kaibigan Award was given to Mr. Crispino Kabiling, Ms. Josefina Santos, Mr. Carlito Lat and Ms. Juanita N. Victoria. After the awarding ceremony, Chairman Jose G. Araullo gave his thanksgiving speech which focused on how goodwill and values served as the bank’s foundation. Before the much-awaited musicale started, a surprise recognition was given by Chairman Araullo and President Barretto to selected bank officers for their dedication, loyalty and outstanding performance. Awardees were Ms. Raquel T. Cabawatan, Senior First Vice President / Head of Treasury, Cash, Commercial and Clearing Operations Group, Ms. Editha P. Mañago, First Vice President / Head of Rizal Area and Ms. Anna Lissa S. Ochoa, Senior First Vice President / Head of Corporate Planning and Media Services Group.

The highlight of the evening came – the extraordinary musicale where The Real Bank’s story unfolded: how it started, what it went through and its plans for the future. Songs and lyrics were carefully selected and arranged to match every milestone. Multitalented director Jaime del Mundo guided the actors on how to unleash their emotions to make their performance more outstanding. Award-winning writer and lyricist Luna Griño-Inocian used her creative writing skills to make it more artistic and interesting to the audience. Song line-up included “Noong Unang Panahon”, “Magsimula Ka”, “One Brick at a Time”, “Be Our Best”, “Ngayon at Kailanman”, “A Whole New World”, “This is the Moment”, “Defying Gravity”, “Children will Listen”, “Circle of Life” and “Tagumpay Nating Lahat”. These songs were brought to life by Jeremy Aguado, Pamela Imperial, Juliene Mendoza, Raul Montesa, Maita Ponce, Felix Rivera and Alys Serdenia. The audience was specially thrilled by the presentation as evidenced by their applause after each performance. It ended with a toast led by Mr. Jose L. Acuzar, Chairman Araullo, President Barretto and Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa, Jr. The night was ended by The Company serenading the guests with their hit songs.
